Storytelling

The speaker goes through a particular example of a child whose parent is in prison and how that affected her. He also talks about his own experience with a fraud charge he got and how he stayed connected with his kids during his time in prison, and how that affected his children with the environment in prison. He speaks of a program called Storybook Dads in the prison where he was incarcerated. It so seriously affected these hard, closed off prisoners that more often than not they were emotional. He includes sound clips of recordings from prisoners that they sent home to their families. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Pt. 1 I chose to use the excerpt from chapter 4 for Mr. Hyde, and the excerpt from chapter 3 for Dr. Jekyll. The characterization of Mr. Hyde is fairly easy, especially using this excerpt. He seems short, both in temper and stature. He is very rude even before the assault, and doesn't engage in the conversation with the other gentleman. The excerpt says that he all of sudden became angry and started to stomp his foot and his cane furiously. The other gentleman was of course surprised and hurt by this act, so he took a step back. Hyde is an angry man and has no control over what he does. It is also clear he is unstable, because at what was probably just an offensive remark, he killed a man. He flew off the hinges and beat the man to death with both his cane and stomped him to death. That boy crazy. The characterization of Dr. Jekyll by the author is that he is a handsome, kind man.
