The Jamz
For my post I decided to create a playlist for Macbeth himself, based on his characteristics in Macbeth. I started with
#1 Coming Undone - Korn
This song is all about a man's descent into madness, with lyrics like "Guess the black thoughts have come to get me" I thought about Macbeth and how quickly he fell apart after the murder of Banquo. Macbeth would listen to this because it might help him confront his own crazy hallucinations and visions.
#2 Superstition - Stevie Wonder
This one is sort of a gimme. "Superstition" makes lots of references to bad luck and how when the "thirteen month old baby, broke the looking glass" that there is no real way to get out from under your fate and the supernatural forces on Macbeth's life. He knows this song applies to him, because "when you believe in things you don't understand then you suffer"
#3 I Want (Skr Skr) - Madeintyo
This song is about all Macbeth wants. He wants a "brand new whip", and a "brand new house". Macbeth's ambition was the thing that ended up dragging him off the deep end. This song fit on the list because Macbeth wanted to live the big life as King.
#4 The Devil Wears a Suit and Tie - Colter Wall
This song is about being duped into having something you want by something that isn't what it seems. Sometimes the "devil wears a suit and tie" can be three witches telling Macbeth everything he wants to hear, then letting him run off and work so hard to get there that he will literally kill families to do so. The song ends with "foolish foolish was I, d*mn my foolish eyes" this can refer back to Macbeth seeing that he has truly been his own worst enemy.
#5 The Man - The Killers
I think this song perfectly wraps this playlist up, it's an impressive combination of confidence, ambition, and masculinity. "I'm the man" sums up the content of the song, and it relates to Macbeth in that Macbeth is entirely focused on his own abilities and ambitions. This song is all about strutting and showing off, which Macbeth is entirely capable of.
hey michael! I like how you were original with your blog post and strayed away from the initial suggestion (netflix queue). This post shows how original your music taste is because you listen to a little bit everything. I think you chose good and relevant songs, and I appreciate how you added pictures for the visual effect! The only critique I have is that your explanations could be a little more beefy. I understand what you are saying, but it is not completely clear. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteThis blogpost was really well put together, and I really liked how you included Music from a variety of genres. Who would have thought I would read about madeintyo and Shakespeare in the same paragraph? definitely not me until I read that portion of the blog. The music really must have been something you spent time thinking about and trying to tie it into how it related to the play must have also taken a good amount of time. Great post overall, and have a good holiday break.
